GradeMyCar ("we," "our," or "us") operates the GradeMyCar Chrome extension and the website at grademycar.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights. By installing or using GradeMyCar, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:

• Account information — Your email address and hashed password, collected via Firebase Authentication (Google) when you create an account.
• Payment information — Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card number, billing address, or any other payment details.
• Credit balance — The number of report credits remaining on your account, stored in our database.
• Anonymized usage data — Aggregate, non-identifiable statistics (e.g., total reports generated) used to improve the product.

We do not collect or store:

• Vehicle listing data, VINs, or search queries
• Your browsing history or the URLs you visit
• Any data from car listing websites — vehicle analysis happens entirely within your browser

2. How We Use Your Information

• To create and manage your account
• To process payments and track your credit balance
• To send transactional emails (receipts, account updates)
• To improve and debug the extension
• To respond to support requests

3. How Vehicle Data Is Processed

When you visit a supported car listing site (CarMax, AutoTrader, Cars.com, CarGurus, Edmunds), the GradeMyCar extension reads the vehicle information displayed on that page — such as make, model, year, mileage, and price — directly within your browser. This data is never transmitted to or stored on our servers.

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information for marketing purposes. We share data only as follows:

• Firebase / Google — Provides our authentication and database infrastructure.
• Stripe — Processes payments on our behalf.
• Legal compliance — We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS/TLS encryption and Firebase's security infrastructure. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

GradeMyCar is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have done so inadvertently, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to opt out of non-essential communications. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@grademycar.com.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
